Warm and Well

Warm and Well

Warm and Well provides energy saving advice to homeowners and private renting tenants. It focuses on how to improve the energy efficiency of properties, and help householders reduce their energy bills.

Since it kicked off in 2001, Warm and Well has installed more than 60,000 energy efficiency improvements in over 40,000 homes.

Warm and Well has information on a number of schemes that may be able to help clients access funding for a variety of improvements, such as grants for cavity wall and loft insulation.

The project also offers free home visits to vulnerable householders who are having difficulty with their fuel costs.

Through the home visits Warm and Well carry out a survey of the house to look for opportunities to reduce fuel costs. This includes helping clients understand their heating controls, assess fuel bills to see if they are a high or low users and, check if they could save money by switching tariff. In some cases we are able to provide free efficiency devices. Following the visits, a full report is written up and provided detailing the savings the householder can achieve.

Severn Wye manages the scheme in partnership with the seven local authorities in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire as well as Gloucestershire County Council. We also work with a wide range of organisations to ensure clients are supported with a variety of services that are available. These organisations range from the Citizens Advice Bureau to food banks.

Q. What has surprised you about this project?

On average we are identifying savings of around £400 year following our home visits.

Q. What do you enjoy most about this project?

We have helped so many clients in need over the years. Last year we were able to help a client who lived on a boat have a central heating system installed completely free of charge!
